Efficiency Maine Weatherization Project

Dear Constituent,
Efficiency Maine is offering a summer promotion for weatherization improvements through the Home Energy Savings Program. Any Maine household may sign up to take advantage of up to $5,500 in state and federal tax incentives for energy cost saving projects.

How to Take Advantage of the Maine Home Energy Savings Program
The incentives range from up to $1,500 if the savings is at least 25% on heating and hot water, and up to $3,000 if saving 50%. Unitil heating customers are eligible to receive even more. Plus get up to $1,500 in federal energy efficiency tax credits.
 
1. Any Maine household or landlord is eligible and must sign up to participate by August 31, 2010. Signing up is as simple as calling or emailing Efficiency Maine with your name, contact information and the address of the property. You will then receive a confirmation from Efficiency Maine.
 
2. One must conduct a home energy audit from a participating energy advisor and then submit a Rebate Reservation Form based on the improvements you decide to make by September 30, 2010. The average cost for an energy audit is $500.
 
3. Make the pre-approved energy efficiency improvements and file the Project Completion Form by December 31, 2010 to receive the incentive check. Average improvement projects cost $5,000 - $10,000.
 
Eligible energy efficiency improvements include:
  • Insulation
  • Sealing air leaks
  • High-efficiency heating systems
  • Solar heating systems
  • ENERGY STAR® windows and doors
